Let me tell you about one Mr. G. He had immense talent in drumming.
We could say he was born a prodigy. He could bring out beautiful beats from anything
and everything. Even as a child, he saw how people used to praise him about his
skills. This in time got into his head as attitude and he stopped playing all
together. When someone asked him about it, he used to say he can start playing
anytime he wants because it came naturally to him.
In his youth, due to some reason he was not able to land a well-paying
job. As per his friend’s advice, he taught
the neighborhood kids some drumming techniques and made enough money to run his
everyday livelihood.
One particular student, say R, he taught adored the drums.
Though he was not as talented as his master, he learnt the nuances from him and
practiced for hours together. As he kept practicing, his skill increased. This
did not stop him from practicing. He continued to practice it like an oath and it
took him places. He earned name and fame everywhere he went.
R surpassed his guru purely by hard work and determination.
Meanwhile G remained one in the crowd realizing he could have become Mr. R if
only he had worked towards honing his skills instead of taking it for granted.
Hard work and talent go hand in hand, always. Hard work
beats talent, when talent does not work hard.
