Desire More

Thought Thought (Day 79: 17-Sept-2013)

Fear Less.

Subash was the star of his school and the heartthrob of girls his age. Every school and inter-school competitions were complete only after Subash had sung or played his guitar, and won accolades followed by prizes. His only wish in life was to become part of a prominent music band someday.

Once in his senior year at school, a famous radio station hosted a competition among teen-musical troops. He trusted that this was his chance to be part of a band, make hits, get recruited by a famous band, became rich and famous. Together with his friends, they formed a band and went ahead to compete. Since all in the band were musically trained, they knew for sure that the trophy was theirs for sure.  However, as our story wants it, the band fails miserably in the contest. Though the team had excellent individual members, their talents failed when put together. It just did not gel. Or maybe it was lack of sufficient practice or may be due to over-confidence. Subash faced his first failure ever and found it very difficult to comprehend.

His fear of losing his dream got bigger each day. The next few events did not see Subash as the winner. Furthermore, the fear of losing forced him into a cocoon. Until the end of his school days, he refrained himself from taking part in any contests, but kept his music alive by entertaining friends and family. His love for music never diminished. While he was a freshman in college, there was an audition for the college band. The memory of the failure back in his school days made him sulk and not audition for it. But secretly he longed to be part of the team.

On the morning of the last day of the audition, Subash came across its pamphlet with lots of random notes, pictures of instruments, date and time of audition and a catchy phrase that read “Got the desire to succeed? Feeling the Fear? Let us join and can conquer them both, if YOU want to”. This helped his realize that his “need” and “desire” to succeed was multi fold than his fear of failure from the past. And as you and I already expect out of this story, he became part of the band, grew as its success grew, he was later represented by top musical companies and he did become rich and famous as he always desired.
