Future

Thought Thought (Day 65: 03-Sept-2013)

has so much to offer...

Sarvam kept running all through the night from his remote village towards an unknown destination. He hitchhiked, walked, slept on the roadside and continued going farther away from his home.
On that fateful day, petty thief Sarvam decided to loot big and chill out before he had to steal again. While he was speculating thus, his neighbor told him that they had borrowed a huge sum for their son’s critical medical treatment. The same night, he stole the money and stayed put acting unawares of the incident. With no money to treat their son on time, his neighbor lost his only son.

Sarvam did not expect the loss of a life because of him. He walked around the village trying to believe that he was not the reason for the child’s death, but the incident broke Sarvam’s conscience into thousand pieces. And then, he started to run.

After days of travelling, he reached the ashram of the divine Ramana Maharshi in Tiruvanamalai in Tamil Nadu, India. Initially, he sat near the ashram without speaking with anyone, and had food given to him by visitors. Gradually, he opened up his ears to the disclosures about Ramanar and his outlook of life changed. Sarvam wanted to contribute to the society while he could and in a way he wanted to.

Through the people in the ashram he sought people who were in dire medical need but were not financially capable, spoke to them and took to collecting funds for their treatment. He did this without any expectations until his death. He lived his life ‘Sarvam’ Ramanaarpanam (I offer everything to you, dear Ramana).  After his death, Sarvam’s life story was often narrated to the disciples to explain that the past is to prove that no one is perfect and the future is to prove that everyone can change.
